Pat Testing

pat testingWhat is a PAT test?

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), 25% of all electrical accidents reported are caused by portable appliances. The majority of these incidents could have been prevented with a simple PAT (Portable Appliance Test) test. A PAT test is a simple test that ensures electrical equipment is effective and safe to use.

Do I need a PAT test by law?

UK law indicates that electrical equipment must be properly maintained and free of any damage that may cause danger. A PAT test itself is not required by law, but stands by far the most useful method for keeping appliances safe to use and meeting any other legal requirements.

How often do I need a PAT test?

There isn't a definitive guideline for how often PAT tests are required. At Dragon Fire Prevention we believe an annual PAT test can be the difference between a new fuse, and a new machine. Equipment that undergoes regular use will need to be tested more often than equipment that receives little use. The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) states that any appliances used by employees or the public should undergo systematic and regular testing and maintenance.
